Berlin/Zürich, 16 September 2010: The moment has arrived: directly on the river Spree next to the Berliner Ensemble theatre and only 50 metres from Friedrichstrasse, construction has begun on yoo berlin, the much anticipated “yoo inspired by Starck” project. Attending the official groundbreaking ceremony at the Am Zirkus 1 building site will be Regula Lüscher, Berlin Building Commission Minister, John Hitchcox, co‐ founder of yoo Ltd, Eike Becker, yoo berlin’s architect, and Dr. Thomas Wolfensberger, CEO of the project’s developer Peach Property Group.

The Berlin firm of Eike Becker_Architekten who designed the 10 storey building and is scheduled for completion in winter 2012, will include not just 87 luxury apartments ranging between 65 and 310m² in size, but also yoo inspired by Starck public areas: a 350 m² Wellness Spa, an Atrium Lounge, Concierge Lobby, and a resident’s Café & Bar. In addition, a 311 room hotel, offices and commercial spaces will be built in a separate 5,100 m² section of the yoo berlin building. Already 25 per cent of yoo berlin apartments have been sold to clients of luxury market leading developer, Peach Property Group AG.

yoo berlin’s Am Zirkus 1 address is legendary. This was the site of Max Reinhardt’s ‘Grosses Schauspielhaus’ theatre (1918‐1933), where Marlene Dietrich and other international stars took their curtain calls. From 1945 onwards, the building provided the location for the Friedrichstadtpalast revue theatre. Due to safety concerns for its foundations, it was demolished in 1985 and the site has remained an empty lot in the middle of vibrant Mitte. Now it is being brought to life as yoo berlin, for the pleasure and enjoyment of its new tenants, its neighbours, city residents and everyone who loves Berlin Mitte.
